Cynthia Petersen, owner of the Hiawatha Advocate, was born and raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Kennedy High School in 1981. 

Cynthia raised her four children and decided to go back to college and earn her Bachelor's degree in Journalism. She graduated from Mount Mercy University and began a weekly newspaper about the Hiawatha community in Feb. 2012.

Though it became apparent in November that the electronic version of the publication was becoming more popular, Cynthia continues to bring current news and events to Hiawatha and its surrounding communities.
